About Us

Hi! My name is Al Marx. After thirty-five years of service in numerous technical, managerial and staff assignments I retired from Verizon. After retirement, my love for dogs turned into my second career.
While completing requirements for training certification with PETsMART, I had the good fortune to intern under renowned trainers, George Cockrell and Margot Woods. I have participated in professional training seminars at the National K9 Academy, in Columbus, Ohio and the Starmark Academy, in Hutto, Texas and hold a Professional Membership with the International Association of Canine Professionals, (IACP). After five years of working with Companions Dog Training, LLC, we created and established Obedience Works, LLC in January 2004. Upon completion of IACP requirements I achieved the title Certified Dog Trainer. I have served as a Director on the IACP Board of Directors and was elected as the Vice President of the IACP. I am certified as a American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.
Since 1998, We have trained over 12,000 dogs. Obedience Works offers individual private in home training, group classes for puppy, basic and advanced level obedience as well as an enhanced board & train program. We have a unique ability to identify with dogs of all breeds applying both traditional and behavioral modification methods. We stand by our motto, to make your good dog a great dog. Moreover, make you an owner your dog will be proud of.
We provide professional dog training, puppy training and canine behavioral modification in Washington, DC., and Maryland including Montgomery County, Prince Georges County, Carroll County, Frederick County, and Howard County.
